ChampionChip Timing

The Philadelphia Marathon/Half Marathon/Rothman Institute 8K feature the ChampionChip timing system.

The Philadelphia Marathon, Half Marathon and Rothman Institute 8K will utilize the ChampionChip scoring system - featuring "state-of-the-art" computer technology for race scoring and timing. Utilized at numerous high profile races around the world, each ChampionChip contains a runner's personalized identification code which will be read by sensors at the start and finish lines, and possibly other locations on the course. Worn on the laces of your shoe, the "chip" will transmit a unique signal which will enable the computer to record your official "gun time" as well as your "net time," taking into account the actual time that you cross the starting line.

Volunteers will be in the finish area to help you remove and collect your "chip."  OFFICIAL FINISH TIMES WILL BE PROVIDED AFTER YOU TURN IN YOUR “CHIP.”

A fee of $30.00 will be charged for all unreturned ChampionChips. A pre-printed return envelope will be provided for anyone who does not participate on race day.
